It’s HERE!! It’s HERE!! My favorite time of year!! (Ha, I rhymed! Totally meant to do that.) 🙂 I love this time of year. It is so magical. I have loved autumn since I was a kid. It’s the beginning of the holiday season (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas…so perfect!) I thought it would be fun to share with you guys why this is my favorite time of year. I’m curious to see if anyone agrees with me! 🙂
First, I want to state, that I realize I live in West Texas, so I know that fall isn’t as prominent as it is in other parts of Texas or the northern U.S. So, yes, some of these are wishful thinking on my part, but I can dream and live vicariously through pictures, movies, books, and TV. 🙂 🙂 Just let me daydream, people!
Autumn is just such a beautiful word. It is definitely the most elegant way to describe a season. It sounds like you are being transported back in time when times were slower and more simple. The colors are absolutely breathtaking!
Pumpkin everything!! 🙂 Yes. I am one of those people. I drink pumpkin spice coffee in my cup year round. (Thanks Keurig.com) 🙂 I love the smells! Apples. Cinnamon. Pumpkin Pie. Pecan Pie. Hot Chocolate. I even love the fresh smell of a bowl of candy corn (can’t stand to eat it but could smell it all day.) Cranberries. Gingerbread! Banana Nut Bread. Mmmm…..just to name a few. These are the smells that transport me back to my great-grandma’s house and Mamaw Nina’s kitchen. Their homes always smelled the same this time of year. The rain even smells better this time of year!
FOOD! Oh man! Baked stuffed apples with lots of cinnamon. Caramel apples. Apple Crisp right out of the oven. Turkey and dressing. Pies. Pies. So many pies. Apple Pie. Pumpkin Pie. Pecan Pie. Cherry Pie. Squash. Sweet potatoes. Green bean casserole. Pumpkin bread. Banana nut bread, warm with butter on top.
The clothes are also my favorite. Big, comfy sweaters. Hoodies. Scarfs. Jeans. Flannel. Boots. Extra fuzzy socks.
Curling up with a warm blanket, a cup of apple cider or hot chocolate and reading a good book is a perfect evening for me.
The crackle of a warm fire in your fireplace.
Getting to use the crockpot for almost every meal!! 🙂 All different kinds of soups to try on a cold evening.
Hayrides! Visiting the local pumpkin patch!
The sounds of autumn. Leaves crunching under your shoes. Leaves rustling in the wind. The birds calling. Crackling fires. Kids laughing and saying “trick or treat!” Or “Boo.” The Halloween music on Pandora.
The scary movies on almost all the TV channels. Or my personal favorites “Hocus Pocus,” “Halloweentown,” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” I might even start watching a few of my favorite Christmas movies around this time of year…come on, I can’t be the only one! The Santa Clause trilogy with Tim Allen or “Home Alone.” I always feel like a kid again this time of year.
Have I mentioned pumpkin yet?!?! 🙂
The nights come earlier, which means I can trick my kids into going to bed earlier so that mommy and daddy can have some Netflix, wine, and cuddle time. We love drinking hot chocolate this time of year, with extra marshmallows.
I tend to bake more during this time of year.
Did I mention pumpkin?!?!?
I love dressing my boys up for Halloween each year. I love decorating for fall.
Overall, I just love the feeling that autumn ignites in me. I feel at home again in the world. I feel like a kid again. It makes me feel fresh and new. It is the world saying “welcome home!”
Did I mention PUMPKIN EVERYTHING!?!?!?! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
