“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”
“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.” –
“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. ” –
“The smells of Christmas are the smells of childhood” –
“Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveler, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home!” –
“At one time, most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed, it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found one Christmas that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. Though I’ve grown old, the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe.” –
We usually do a lot of traveling to see family during the holiday season. However, this year a few things have changed or happened to keep us from doing that. That won’t stop us from giving our boys a great Christmas.
This weekend we are going to take the boys to The West Texas North Pole Village. Here is the link.
It looks like so much fun. Kids under 12 are free. Santa will be there with his reindeer. They will have hot chocolate, hayrides, Santa’s house, sleigh barn, Santa’s workshop, sledding hill, reindeer barn, and a post office to name a few. This will be our first time taking the boys.
We always take our boys to Starbright Village for hot chocolate, Santa, and some really pretty lights. You can either drive through or get out and walk along the designated walking path. It always has such beautiful lights each year.
Driving around looking at Christmas lights is something we do almost every weekend in December. The boys always love the lights. One neighborhood goes all out every year. One house even has a Santa Clause standing out front that hands out books to all the kids that drive/walk by. <3
Christmas Eve is when we bake cookies for Santa. No surprise here, but this is Nikola’s favorite thing to do! I think more icing and sprinkles end up in his mouth than on the actual cookies. 🙂 We have a coffee mug and coffee plate that we leave out for Santa every Christmas Eve.
We try to find a Christmas Eve Program at our church or another local church to attend on Christmas Eve. It is always a beautiful thing to see all the lights, people gathering and singing together to celebrate. It is a great reminder of what Christmas is really about. The birth of Jesus and the love of family and friends.
We watch Christmas movies all through December (let’s be honest, we usually start in November.) Some of our favorites are:
- The Santa Clause (1-3)
- Home Alone (1&2)
- Polar Express
- It’s A Wonderful Life
- A Christmas Story
- Miracle on 34th Street
- A Charlie Brown Christmas
- The Grinch (Cartoon & Real People)
- All the good claymation Christmas movies
I think my favorite part of Christmas is Christmas mornings. I love watching the look on my boys’ faces when they see the tree and what Santa left them. <3 They always rush over to see if Santa ate their cookies and drank the milk.
What are your holiday plans?
“For unto us a child is born, unto us, a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” -Isaiah 9:6
