I have spoken many times on this blog recently about how important spending time in the kitchen together or around a dining room table is to my family. Your senses of taste and smell are highly connected to memories. Certain kitchens had certain smells in my childhood and I want to remember them all. Lets ring in the New Year with some family recipes. <3 I hope you enjoy.
** This is the only picture that I have with my MaMaw Shirley and my firstborn son, Nikola. Take more pictures, my friends. We are never promised tomorrow. <3
MaMaw Shirley’s Tortilla Pinwheels
- 1 c. sour cream
- 1 Tbsp. lime juice
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
- 1 Tbsp. jalapeno pepper, seeded, softened and minced
- 3/4 c. sliced green onions
- 1/2 c. cheddar cheese, finely shredded
- 8-10 flour tortillas, about 7 in.
- Salsa or Picante sauce
- Plastic wrap
Combine the first 6 ingredients in a bowl, mix well. Spread one side of each tortilla with filling mixture. Roll up tightly and wrap each roll in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least one hour. Slice each roll into 1-inch pieces and arrange on a tray. Serve with salsa. Can be prepared several days in advance, if desired.
MaMaw Nina’s Deviled Eggs

- 3/4 c cooked and chopped bacon, divided
- 1/3 c minced onion
- 3 Tbsp. dill pickle relish
- 3 Tbsp. mayonnaise
- 2 tsp. yellow mustard
- salt and pepper
- 1 tsp. paprika
Broil your eggs. Once finished cool the eggs, under cool running water. Peel the eggs and slice each egg in half, lengthwise. (the long way) Place yolks in a bowl. Mix the bacon with the onion, relish, mayonnaise, and mustard with the egg yolks. Stir in your salt and pepper, to taste. Scoop the egg yolk mixture into the egg white halves and sprinkle with paprika.
