If you are like me you love curling up on the couch, with your favorite blanket, popcorn, and a good movie on the TV. 🙂 2018 was a big year for movies. If you are a fan of comic book superheroes then 2018 was an exciting year for you. From The Avengers to Black Panther to Aquaman, the action wasn’t of short supply this year. 2018 even brought sequels and a remake or two. Here is my list of the Best Movies for Kids from 2018.

Mary Poppins Returns (December 19, 2018)

Directed by Rob Marshall and starring Emily Blunt, Mary Poppins Returns is a sequel to the original 1964 classic. I will admit I was a bit skeptical because the original is a classic and I grew up watching it. However, I will say that I am glad this was made as a sequel and not a remake. Mary Poppins returns to help the now grown Banks children. The adult Banks kids have forgotten their adventures with Mary Poppins. Jane has taken after her mother and Michael is now a widower trying to figure out how to take care of his 3 children on his own and not lose his childhood home. Enter Mary Poppins to deliver a much-needed sigh of relief.

Mary Poppins Returns is still in theaters, but you can preorder by clicking on the picture below.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 (November 21, 2018)

The voices of John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman return as the beloved characters Ralph and Vanellope from the first Wreck-It Ralph from 2012. Six years after the first, Vanellope’s game is broken. Vanellope and Ralph enter the Internet to find the piece that is needed to fix it.

The Grinch (November 9, 2018)

A remake of the classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Grinch is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange.) The Grinch is out to steal Christmas until his heart is changed by an adorable little who-girl. It sticks pretty close to the original but does add some extra storylines to extend the play time. I will be the first to say, it is not the original. The original has a special place in my heart. However, it is still good and it does a great job bringing in a new generation of Grinch fans.

The Nutcracker and The Four Realms (November 2, 2018)

Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, The Nutcracker and The Four Realms overs a different take then the ballet version. The movie follows Clara’s journey through the Four Realms of gingerbread people and toy soldiers. Filled with beautiful costumes and bright sets and sceneries.

Smallfoot (September 28, 2018)

A yeti named Migo (voiced by Channing Tatum) flips the script on the normal myth of Bigfoot. Migo is convinced that the elusive creature (human) named Smallfoot does exist so he starts out on a journey with the S.E.S (Smallfoot Evidentiary Society) to prove to the rest of the yetis that Smallfoot really does exist. So very funny and well worth the watch.

Christopher Robin (August 3, 2018)

A beautiful, heartwarming tale of a grown Christopher Robin. Starring Ewan McGregor as the adult Christopher Robin, who has lost all his childlike wonder and seems to be caught up in choosing work over his family on a regular basis. Meanwhile, back in the Hundred Acre Wood, Pooh can’t find his friends so he goes through a door that leads him to Christopher Robin, who reluctantly agrees to help Pooh find his friends. Christopher Robin is such a cute movie and I loved getting to revisit my past a bit with my boys.

Hotel Transylvania 3 (July 13, 2018)

Adam Sandler is back as Dracula in the third installment of Hotel Transylvania. This time Dracula and the rest of his friends go on a cruise, not knowing that the boat is in the hands of the monster-hating Van Helsing family. I am a huge fan of this series. This third installment is just as funny as the first two.

Incredibles 2 (June 13, 2018)

I am not ashamed to say I waited 14 years for this sequel! 🙂 The Incredibles are back and working as a family of superheroes, but special heroism is still not legal. They are offered the chance to work with a wealthy pair of siblings to change the public image and legal status of superheroes. However, they want Elastigirl to run point because her image is a little cleaner compared to Mr. Incredible, which leaves Mr. Incredible home to take care of the family in her absence. This scenario lends for some hilarious times at the Incredible home.

Sherlock Gnomes (March 23, 2018)

In this sequel to Gnomeo and Juliet, Gnomeo and Juliet must join forces with Sherlock Gnomes and Gnome Watson to help them find the rest of the gnomes that have gone missing. This is another cute little spin to the original classic story of Sherlock Holmes.

A Wrinkle In Time (March 9, 2018)

A film adaptation of the classic novel stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling. The story follows Meg, a thirteen-year-old girl who is having trouble adjusting to life after her renowned scientist goes missing while working on a project. Meg and her little brother is visited by Mrs. Whatsit, which is the beginning of a long journey to find out what happened to her father.

Peter Rabbit (February 9, 2018)

A modern take on Beatrix Potter’s iconic children’s story. Peter Rabbit (voiced by James Corden) and his three sisters spend their days harassing Mr. McGregor. When Mr. McGregor dies no one is around to stop the rabbits from running crazy around his farm. Soon a relative comes to take over what Mr. McGregor left behind and a battle between rabbit and man begins.
